Hi,

I was wondering what payment system do you use on your websites, What system do you find works best for your customer?

Is it paypal, world pay, google cart, nochex or any others?

I look forward to hearing your views.

Hi. I use Paypal and it seems to work ok for me. The majority of people these days seem to have a Paypal account.

I use Paypal because it was so easy to set up and is recognised by anyone who has eve shopped on the internet. People don't have to have an account with them to shop either, they can pay by card.

I would be interested to hear of others' opinions, though. I know some people don't like what they think of as Paypal's monopoly - and I believe there is a website dedicated to people who are unhappy with it.

It would be good to hear from people who are using alternatives.

Does anyone offer direct bank transfers and how do you manage it?

I use Paypal (would be foolish not to) and protx (you need a business bank account and merchant account).

Bank transfers, well the good thing is it's free for both sides. However, paying by Paypal or credit/debit cards online is instant. For the bank transfer to happen, the customer has to either call their bank or log on their internet banking. I'd expect the chances of the sales not completing are high.
I recently had the choice of a few suppliers for some tabs. One offered bank transfer, or credit/debit card with 1.5% surcharge (they obviously want their customers to pay by bank transfers). However I wanted next day delivery and I don't expect the company to send the goods without payment. Bank transfers take 3 working days to reach the recipient's account. So I went with the one who took my card payment for free and could deliver next day.

Some good points in your post, Bea, useful for me and I'm sure others. I guess bank transfers are cheaper for the company concerned, which is why they are trying to encourage it.

My concern would be that you need to give account details to a customer if they are paying by bank transfer - is that safe? :confused:

I would only be interested in offering bank transfer as an option, with Paypal being the preferred method. I'm sure it's true that the stages a customer has to go through could lead to reduced sales.

look at google checkout, a customer can pay by invoice from google or via its own checkout button on your product page. think paypal does this too. problem like paypal, they have to have an account. although did i hear paypal was changing this?

incidently in germany we mainly use bank transfer. funny old world

I think paypal will take card payment from people who don't have an account with them. I don't know if this is worldwide.

Hi all,

Wendy - I think if you upgrade to 'paypal pro' customers dont need an PP account - theres costs of course, but still works out ok for even a small buisness if i recall correctly.

Im very happy using PP myself, but am looking at google checkout, mainly because google is so big i figure its got to be worth thinking about.

It can run alongside PP, so its the customers choice really.
