Hi

I suffer with arthritis and struggle to twist the wire using the vice when making tiaras does anyone know of a drill that could be used to twist the wire whilst held in the vice to assist my poor aching fingers.

I have searched and cannot find what I require here's hoping you can help me:)

If it's for fine wire, what about trying a dremel ?

Hello from another arthritic crafter (isnt it annoying when it gets in the way of crafting!) My workaround for this problem when my fingers are stiff/swollen is to use two pairs of pliers - one to hold the base of the wires and one to hold and twist.

Hi JoannamariH,

There is a specific tool made for this called, would you believe it, Wire Locking Pliers. They are mainly used in the Aerospace industry to lock fastenings with a twist of wire; it stops the fastening coming undone under vibration.

The tool locks onto the wire and then you pull a ring at the back and this twists the wire uniformly. If you go into Google and type in ‘Wire Locking Pliers’ you will have a choice of manufacturers to chose from, prices range from £10 - £30, dependant on quality. One of the sites I came across was ‘ShackTools.com’ but there is plenty of choice.

Regards,

I..
