What is rep power?

I assumed it was something to do with recommending the site to friends until I saw that I had 1 rep power.

Sorry for the newbie question.

you get some for loads of posts, but mainly cos you get given it for a useful/interesting/informative post. it can be taken away too.

if you look at a person 's posts onthe purple (ish) title bar for each poter on the right you can see a symbol of scales, once you click on that a new window opens, and you can add acomment directly into the post, good or bad.

You can see who ahs given you rep by going into user cp (at top left of screen in blue bar)

I thought, ooh there's someone else wanting to know, then the last bit of the thread got confusing LOL.
