Wheat for wheat pillows?

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help here.

I would like to make some of those microwave warming pillow things but I have no idea where to get the filler.

I've heard it's buck wheat, but can I just go down to the supermarket and buy it?

Buck wheat can be bought at most supermarkets. it's normally with the dried kidney beans and chick peas.
You can also get it from Hollund and barrett etc.

Pearl barley will also work if you can't get wheat.
Do you have a grain mill near you? The sort of place where farmers buy their cow feed. My DH got some wheat for me when he picked up the calf feed and it was only about £5 for a 25kilo bag.
Once I made the bags I heated them up twice to make sure it was completely dry and it worked fine.

I make (and sell) them, covered in fleece for kiddies bed warmers, etc. and I use long grain rice. It works brilliantly!

It takes 1 1/2 to 2 minutes to heat in the microwave and holds the heat for about 2 hours.
