Some of you may have seen my post on CF flickr yesterday - but if not my car is poorly. Over a thousand pounds poorly

It all started Wednesday with the abs (brakes) light flashing and them saying it would cost £78 to diagnose!!!

But apparently the pump that runs the whole abs thingy(?) has stopped working.
.... And just to finish me off the exhaust is about to fall off too

Sam I'm sorry to hear that what a bill!! Is it a new car or newish? If not might be time to treat yourself to a nice shiny new car. Cars are great when they are going but when they are not!!!!

Cheers.

Oh no!! Poor car and you.

Don't cry, maybe you could go for a nice new one, or is it a fixing job?

Oh no! I hate it when my car goes wrong.
I remember the good old days when i first started driving, i had a metallic blue vwgolf and when something went wrong with it my hubbie (boyfriend at the time!) could fix it.
Now these days you cant so much as have a flipping bulb go and they need to go into the garage and be plugged into some computer before they will even contemplate doing anything.
And they build the engines so they are really difficult to get to anything again a conspiricy to get you to the garage i think!
I'ts cheaper and easier to get my world war two Willy's Jeep fixed as we get the parts through the post and again, hubbie can fix it, so maybe that's the answer, go for the classics every time!!
Good luck!!

It's a fix job - Would love to treat myself to a nice new one, but that would be nearer 3 grand!! Its a Y reg Polo - so old (ish), but has very low mileage on it for a Y

Hope it comes back happy! Not sure I could afford anymore problems this year.

I feel for you and hope that it doesn't cost you too much, ie: not as much as they are initially quoting.

I've had two car accidents in the last 18 months (I was hit both times) and the latest one in February I was hit by an uninsured driver. I had to shell out £350 excess to have the car repaired under my own insurance. I'm still wincing at having to pay out when it wasn't my fault.

Best of luck :)

I'm feeling your pain!!! My car failed its mot last month 10 TIMES...bloody ozone layer, stupid emissions....it took 10 tests before the emissions were low enough to pass....I get the ozone is important, but damn it, I am very good when it comes to everything else world friendly...i should get bonus points for this, that i could then use as leverage for my car emissions...its not even a gus gusler...a nice little 800cc daewoo matiz!!!!!

My poorly car is still poorly! They said it would be fixed today, but the part came and was broken - So no car till Monday now.

Emma - know how you feel hun. I had to pay that much when some local thug put a big dent in my old car with a base ball bat!! He went down the whole street attacking cars at about 3am (little swine!)

a couple of years ago some thugs broke and smashed 19 cars in our area windows wing mirrors etc our car they tried to take wrecked the steering column we lost all our no claims so our insurance went up and we had to pay the excess fortunately we have no claims protection now but it makes you sick that you work hard to have a car and these yobs were caught and let of with a slapped wrist because of there age

I had my wing mirror kicked off a couple of weeks ago, police were there within 5 mins (neighbours saw it happen and called them) still couldn't find the little s***. Thankfully didn't break the glass but did snap the arm but hubby managed to screw it together. Its a lease car too so hope they don't notice! Selina

Sorry about your car and the bill :mad:
As for the little pests that smash cars for fun this seems to be the new thing round about where I live. Two weeks ago it was six wing mirrors in the one wee street and half the estate seems to have been hit.

I know aren't they horrible - I used to live in the student area of town and they used to come home drunk running across the car roofs, pulling up wind screen wipers etc. My ariel was stollen once as well.

Car update - they just rang to say the new pump is fitted and they took it for a test drive, but my ABS light is still showing on my dash board. So it may not even be the pump thingy? They are getting some vw specialist in on Monday to have a look.

Could they be trying to charge you for the wrong thing then and you'll get all your money back (god loves a tryer). :D

My friend has a vw golf and i'm sure she had that light keep coming on with hers... hmm can't remember what they did in the end but think it took them quite a few goes at 'fixing it' to figure out what exactly needed fixing! will have to ask her...

Thanks hun, that would be great - I've actually just googled it and found a few worrying posts about the same problem. One from a guy saying he spent over £1500 trying to fix the problem (changing asb sensors/pump etc) and the light still shows up all the time

Aw Incy, at first glance, I thought you said your caT was £1000 poorly!

When mechanics have different opinions on faults with cars or cant get to the bottom of what to fix and how (or gas engineers with gas boilers for that matter) it always makes me think how difficult it must be for doctors and surgeons working with our non-man-made bits

Hope you're sorted soon - I used to have a little VW Lupo from new and its little computer-brain-thingy used to put the warning light on if the day was too sunny sometimes :)
